The question

Build a clear Power BI dashboard that helps users explore Udemy course performance, compare subjects, understand revenue trends, and identify popular courses.

This project analyzes Udemy course data using Power BI. It helps users understand total courses, total lectures, total revenue, total reviews, popular courses, paid versus free course distribution, subject performance, course publishing trends, monthly revenue, course price distribution, and the relationship between revenue and subscribers. The dashboard includes two report pages. The first page focuses on platform overview, key metrics, popular courses by subscribers and reviews, paid versus free courses, lecture distribution, courses published each year, subject distribution, and monthly lecture details by subject. The second page focuses on monthly revenue, top revenue courses, revenue by subjects, revenue by levels, price distribution, and revenue versus number of subscribers.

Results & observations

  • The final dashboard gives a clear view of Udemy course performance, subject distribution, revenue trends, course popularity, price distribution, and subscriber behavior.
  • Users can quickly identify the most popular courses, top revenue courses, highest-performing subjects, revenue by levels, and monthly revenue trends.

Challenges

  • Combining courses, subjects, prices, subscribers, reviews, lectures, levels, and revenue into one dashboard
  • Making course performance easy to understand
  • Showing revenue trends clearly by month and subject
  • Comparing popular courses by subscribers, reviews, and revenue
  • Designing simple visuals for online learning business analysis

Approach

  1. I cleaned and prepared the Udemy course dataset.
  2. I created Power BI measures for total courses, total lectures, total revenue, total reviews, subscriber counts, course revenue, and subject performance.
  3. I designed dashboard pages for course overview and revenue performance analysis.
  4. I added visual comparisons by course, subject, level, year, month, revenue, subscribers, lectures, reviews, and course price.
Implementation details

Data Preparation

Cleaned and prepared the Udemy course dataset for analysis.

Data Modeling

Created the Power BI data model for courses, subjects, levels, months, prices, subscribers, reviews, lectures, and revenue.

DAX Development

Built measures for total courses, total lectures, total revenue, total reviews, subscribers, monthly revenue, and subject-level revenue.

Overview Dashboard

Designed the overview page with key metrics, popular courses, paid versus free courses, yearly publishing trends, subject distribution, and lecture details.

Revenue Analysis

Created revenue visuals for top courses, subjects, course levels, monthly revenue, course price distribution, and subscriber relationship analysis.

Final Formatting

Formatted KPI cards, bar charts, line charts, pie charts, tables, and scatter plots for clear Udemy course reporting.
