The question

Build a clear Power BI dashboard that helps users explore music streaming performance, compare artists and tracks, analyze chart rankings, and understand Spotify trends against other music platforms.

This project analyzes Spotify music streaming data using Power BI. It helps users understand track performance, artist rankings, total streams, yearly stream trends, music mode, song popularity, chart presence, playlist performance, and relationships between Spotify and other music platforms. The dashboard includes three report pages. The first page focuses on track-level information, track stats, average stream per year, music attributes, track count calendar, streams over time, top track names, and stream distribution by mode. The second page focuses on top artists, total streams for top tracks, platform chart metrics, danceability and valence relationships, streams by day of week, chart ranking, and artist streams by mode. The third page compares Spotify performance with Deezer, Apple, and Shazam using monthly trend line analysis.

Results & observations

  • The final dashboard gives a clear view of Spotify track performance, top artists, streaming trends, chart presence, playlist performance, and cross-platform comparisons.
  • Users can quickly identify top songs, top artists, major versus minor mode streams, platform ranking patterns, and monthly performance relationships between Spotify, Apple, Deezer, and Shazam.

Approach

  1. I cleaned and prepared the Spotify music streaming dataset.
  2. I created Power BI measures for total streams, top track streams, yearly streams, artist rankings, chart counts, playlist counts, and music attribute comparisons.
  3. I designed dashboard pages for track overview, artist and chart analysis, and monthly platform comparison.
  4. I added visual comparisons by artist, year, track, date, mode, day of week, platform chart, playlist, and streaming trend.
Implementation details

Data Preparation

Cleaned and prepared the Spotify music streaming dataset for analysis.

Data Modeling

Created the Power BI data model for artists, tracks, dates, streams, chart rankings, playlists, music mode, and audio attributes.

DAX Development

Built measures for total streams, average stream per year, top track streams, artist ranking, platform charts, playlist counts, and mode-based stream analysis.

Track Overview

Designed the track overview page with track info, track stats, music attributes, calendar heatmap, top tracks, streams over time, and mode distribution.

Artist and Chart Analysis

Created artist and chart analysis visuals for top artists, platform ranking, streams by week day, song popularity, and artist streams by mode.

Platform Comparison

Built comparison visuals to analyze Spotify performance against Deezer, Apple, and Shazam charts and playlists over monthly trends.
